Okay. Now that I’m done freaking out, Welcome momocon to The Mournsworth Motel! I am honored to be graced by your presence! One day I will actually get to go to momocon (: I’ve gone to AWA twice now, which were both my first and second conventions ever. I’ve had a lot of fun both times and plan to expand my convention going venues! In the mean time, though, know that you have a friend in me and all the other crazy people like me that like dressing up as fictional characters! Check out the cosplay tag and be amazed (:
Can your give your opinion on Jaune at all? You said you disagreed with me about his character being bad, but you never mentioned why he's a good character. (Btw, great list on what RWBY needs to improve on)
His character is good because he’s an outright failure, but he’s also stubbornly resigned to being a failure—despite having a great amount of potential. NORMALLY, he would be the absolute protagonist of a show like this—we’d look at his life as he struggles in this school of uber-powerful peers, many of them girls, and as he tried to improve and often failed. Instead, he stars for one small arc, in which he reveals that he’s not a guy who will “keep trying until I’m the best”—he actually resents his position as the “damsel in distress,” because he’s the white guy, he’s supposed to be the hero, he’s supposed to be the main character…but he’s aware that he’s not.
His role is one that embraces a lot of tropes and standards while subverting them.
And he tries, oh boy, he TRIES to be the suave professional MANLY MAN, but that’s something that he really isn’t and shouldn’t be…but he keeps trying. He’s almost waiting for all of his problems to solve themselves, but they’re not; and even when his problems are “solved,” he only succeeds because Pyrrha helps him. He has a lot of potential, but no confidence, and I just tend to like those kinds of characters.
Plus, every line he delivers comes out magnificently. He’s hilarious.
I got original world stuff mixed in with fandom stuff. |c I am sorry.
I really wanted to redesign a character in the clothing style of my Celveryia world, but me and gift art haven’t been on good terms for the majority of the year, so I ended up plucking out Jaune Arc from RWBY to deck out in fancy gear. Please forgive the crudely drawn Crocea Mors blade (and pretend his left arm is finished and holding the shield). Me and drawing weapons don’t get along.
I probably should have desaturated the orange a little, but I was just sticking to colors pulled off of Jaune from screencaps.
… I’m really tempted to do Ren too… maybe all of JNPR… |c
Celveryia canon dictates that he would have a Badass Longcoat out of armor, but I wasn’t gonna draw that.
